Mary Ellen Long
(December 26, 1927 - March 26, 2012)
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen Long of Grenada, formerly of Duck Hill, will be at
11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 30, at Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church at Duck Hill, with
burial following in the church cemetery. Elder Paul Blair, assisted by Elder David Blair,
will officiate the services.
Visitation will be on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until service time, at the church.
Mrs. Long died at Regency Hospital in Jackson on Monday, March 26. She was 84 years
old.
Mrs. Long was the daughter of the late Walter Tully and Lottie Ransom Poe and the
widow of the late Sam C. Long. She was a retired dietician at Duck Hill School and a
member of Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church at Duck Hill. She loved to quilt and
enjoyed gardening. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death
by her daughter, Sandra Faye Lane; son, George William Long; sister, June Blakely; and
brothers, Billy and George Poe.
Survivors include her son, Charles I. Long, Sr., of Grenada; two sisters, Susie Robinson
of Grenada and Gladys Blair of Steens; two brothers Bobby Poe of Memphis, TN, and
Jim Poe of Commerce, TX; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a very
special young lady, Katherine Taylor.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Long, Jeremy Lane, Greg Frady, Kevin Poe, James Robertson
Jr., and James Blair. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Long, Gene Blakely, Fred
Foshee, Mike Poe, Paul Poe, and Randy Poe.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Fund.
